Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County provides energy outreach and education to residents of Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Herkimer (North), Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Warren and Washington county through the North Country Energy $mart program.  Energy-saving habits are always in season!

The New York Energy $martSM Communities Program offers local, accessible community-based access to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA’s) energy-efficiency and research and development programs.

North Country Energy $mart Communities can help your community by:

  • Matching energy project needs with the available NYSERDA funding opportunities and other economic development resources
  • Creating partnerships to encourage the development and implementation of local energy projects
  • Educating home owners, community leaders, business owners, and the general public on the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable resources
  •  Providing assistance to energy-related businesses and entrepreneurs through initiatives that increase awareness of local and NYSERDA business assistance services available to early-stage, clean energy businesses
  • Building support for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects by providing energy education forums to help achieve the energy savings necessary for successful development efforts
  • Helping organizations and businesses build opportunities and create jobs by providing access to job training and recruitment opportunities for local business partners
  • Building a network of local organizations and agencies that contribute

Listed below are energy and money-saving programs that you may be eligibile for:

The EmPower New York program delivers energy saving to low-income New Yorkers. On-site energy use education provides customers with additional strategies for managing their energy costs.

The FlexTech Program provides New York State commercial, industrial, institutional, government, and not-for-profit sectors with objective and customized information to help customers make informed energy decisions. FlexTech’s goal is to increase productivity and economic competitiveness of participating facilities by identifying and encouraging the implementation of cost-effective energy efficiency, carbon reduction measures, peak-load curtailment, and combined heat & power (CHP) and renewable generation projects.Energy $mart Camps and Campers is a program for state-wide 4-H camps to enabel Counselors-in-Training (CIT’s) to evaluate the energy efficiency of their camp.

The Green Jobs-Green New York outreach program partners with Constituency-Based Organizations (CBOs) that can help you find the NYSERDA energy efficiency program that is right for your small business, residential building, not-for -profit organization, home or apartment.
